RESPONSIBILITY.

At Xodus we want to make an impact – and for that to be a positive one. This means we champion responsibility across everything we do and promote others to do the same. We work proudly across oil and gas and renewables because we can make a difference to the world’s biggest energy and climate challenges.

Responsibility 4
Responsibility is a core part of our vision and one of our key values.

We embed responsibility, in all its forms across the business, including;

    • Working on energy projects that are economically, technically, environmentally, socially and ethically sustainable
    • Investing in people and providing the framework to support mental health and physical wellbeing, engagement, training, work-life balance, helping people thrive and be the best version of themselves
    • Actively promoting diversity and inclusion
    • Meeting our commitments under the UN Global Compact (the Compact) and delivering tangible progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (the Goals).

We are working to make impactful changes across the energy sector to deliver a kinder and more sustainable world.

THE UNGC AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The United Nations Global Compact’s (UNGC’s) vision is to mobilise a global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders to create the world we want. In 2019, Xodus took the bold step to be part of this movement and became a signatory of the UNGC. We are committed to embedding and promoting all 10 Principles of the Compact into our working practices across our global business. We do this through:

    • Leading the energy industry to a responsible energy future - Working with our clients to reach their sustainability goals and applying our skills to optimise, improve and deliver the energy transition to enable a net-zero world.
    • Being ambassadors for sustainability within our organisation - Through embedding the principles into our systems and processes we are working to words better environmental performance.

In September 2015, the UN set out ‘Agenda 30’ a path that over the next 15 years would aim to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect our planet. At the heart of this was the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. As our business navigates the energy transition with our clients, we have chosen to prioritise six SDGs where we believe we can really make a difference:

    • Gender Equality
    • Affordable and Clean Energy
    • Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
    • Responsible Consumption and Production
    • Climate Action
    • Life Below Water

Improving Environmental Performance

Xodus has an integrated HSE Management System that is ISO 14001 certified. Through the HSEMS process, we strive for continuous improvement and at the heart of our five-year plan is a focus and commitment to technology and innovation to facilitate improved environmental performance. The climate challenge is fully integrated into our strategy and as such we have and continue to create a multidisciplinary team of experts with energy to support this.

Carbon Reduction Commitment

As a key focus area of the UNGC is environment, to demonstrate our commitment to the environment principles, we have focused on emissions reduction. We have taken immediate action to achieve net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for our operations, and in 2021 we:

    • Eliminated Scope 1 emissions from our inventory
    • Reduced our identified material Scope 3 emissions to as low as practicable
    • Achieved net zero emissions globally, by offsetting our residual emissions of 344 tonnes CO2e to a verified standard.

Moving forward, we will drive decarbonisation and emission reduction goals internally with clients and vendor chain to embed new behaviours and drive the culture change required to combat the global climate emergency. A more ambitious and detailed set of targets have been created to monitor our progress on the environment principles.

    • Scope 1 – Maintain zero Scope 1 emissions in the business.
    • Scope 2 – Source 100% of our office energy from renewables and offset any Scope 2 emissions that we cannot source from renewable energy.
    • Scope 3 – Drive deep decarbonisation through our focus on our Scope 3 emissions and behaviours:
    • Extend, measure and reduce our Scope 3 emissions year on year until we can achieve net-zero for this scope
    • We will offset our material Scope 3 greenhouse emissions until we achieve net zero for these scopes
    • Influence our value chain by embedding carbon reduction in our new vendor chain process by the end of 2023 and working with vendors to embed carbon emissions reduction ways of working in their own supply chains.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

To be the best, we need to bring people together with diverse skillsets and perspectives, creating a platform where everyone can feel and perform at their best - plus have a lot of fun doing what we do!

To support us, we have put diversity and inclusion (D&I) in the spotlight. This journey accelerated with the appointment of a D&I transformation manager, who has been in place since early 2021. Although we are in the infancy of our journey, we are taking key steps to be better.

One of the key initiatives set up was the establishment of employee resource groups (ERGs), to ensure all employees had the opportunity to express their opinions on people and gender topics - and we are already reaping the benefits. Through collaboration between one of our ERGs and the leadership team, we have developed a new global parental leave policy, providing improved benefits such as parental leave applicable from day one of service to all employees in all countries.

Our Gender Pay Gap (GPG) reports are published here. We are working hard to close our GPG, but we have work to do and we have set out a new strategic approach, investing in sprint, policy and reporting activities to make meaningful impact in the months ahead.

At Xodus we have brilliant female leaders, specialists and engineers, however, more men than women hold senior roles, creating a GPG. We are dedicated to changing this, by recruiting more women, ensuring our pay structure is transparent, and providing development opportunities and policies that support women at Xodus, and you can read more about the positive steps being taken.

We are building a diverse and inclusive working environment, where people belong and are valued. We have also set out how we plan to increase our Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) strategy and reporting in the year ahead. We recognise that this will take time and persistence but are confident we have the right plan in place to start delivering real and lasting change.

STEM AT XODUS

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects are core to what we do at Xodus and sharing knowledge and inspiring the next generation of experts are the goals for our STEM ambassadors.

Our dedicated group of STEM ambassadors are passionate about making STEM subjects exciting and creating links between school and the working world. Our ambassadors volunteer their time across activities such as workplace visits, career fairs, expos, and mentoring to give young people an insight into STEM careers.

It is vital that we invest in young people and increase the number of STEM professionals, to help improve the supply of these skills into the energy industry. Being a STEM ambassador and running events is also a fantastic way of developing our staff and giving back to the community at the same time.
